The new benchmark

Q6LMXP3 is a powerful mono-crystalline standard solar cell in an attractive design. And that's not all: It is the first PID1 and hotspot-free solar module on the market anywhere in the world. The full-square format and security buffer against light-induced degradation make the Q6LMXP3 the perfect solution for all applications that require peak performance. With its homogenous black look, the Q6LMXP3 is also perfectly suited for aesthetically demanding applications. The full-square format enables up to 4.2 Wp of cell performance. This corresponds to a 3% performance boost over mono-crystalline standard cells with the same efficiency ratios. The Q6LMXP3 manages a ratio of 18.8%, making it the top performing mono-crystalline solar cell on the market.

How a solar cell works

Light acts as both a wave and a particle. Einstein described light as a "conglomeration of projectiles". If these projectiles – the photons – have sufficient energy and hit a free electron in a conductor or semiconductor, that electron is set into motion. Electricity begins to flow. It is drawn off the surface of the solar cell through silver contacts. Several cells are connected via contacts to form a module. The electricity generated in this way can be used directly or fed into the power grid.

From wafers to cells

How solar cells are produced

The wafers initially pass through several chemical baths to remove microscopic damage from their surfaces. A negative-conducting film is then applied onto their surfaces. Afterwards an additional film is applied to allow more light to penetrate the wafers. Front and back contacts are then printed on the wafers and burnt in using a furnace. The finished cells are then meticulously checked and classified based on efficiency, electrical and visual characteristics.
