Q.FLAT 1 MWp power plant in Jessen, Germany
This Q.FLAT system was installed on two large industrial roofs in 10 days only. Q.FLAT was designed by Q CELLS to get the maximum revenue out of flat roofs. For example, the system does not need roof penetration, hence keeps the installation costs low. The proof are the low electricity production costs of 7 € cent/kWp only.
The electricity will be used directly on-the-spot. "Local energy utilisation is growing more an more important", says Mr. Huber, CEO of the project planning and operation company Sunovis GmbH. The energy transition era has just begun.

Q.FLAT 102 kWp pilot installation in Thalheim
This 102 kWp pilot installation in Thalheim, Germany, covers a roof area of app. 1,000 m². With a ground cover ratio (GCR) of 72 % it utilizes twice as much roof area for electricity production than a standard 30° tilted reference system in Herzberg, Germany (91 kWp on 2,400 m²). In the monitored time from February to May 2012, the Q.FLAT system achieved a performance ratio of 82 % – despite snow in February, use of a pyranometer instead of a reference cell and a strong partial shading caused by the roof infrastructure.
Due to the 10° tilt the system was installed much more efficient and with lower BOS costs. The reason is a slightly flatter but – at the same time – broader output curve during the day. Hence, a DC/AC factor of 1.35 could be applied instead of the classic 1.0 as for the reference system in Herzberg. The system is not subject to a very steep peak in mid-day and optimizes the utilization of light in the morning and evening hours as well as due to its large GCR. In direct comparison on a sunny, cloudless may day, Q.FLAT outmatches the 30° reference system in Herzberg and exhibits an output density of 0.67 kWh per squaremeter of roof area compared to only 0.26 kWh/m² of the Herzberg system.

This PV system provides clean energy to the maxx-solar-academy in the South African city Cape Town. Since 2012, the German maxx-solar & energy GmbH has been helding workshops and courses on photovoltaics for planers, installers and students. Supported by the maxx-solar PV experts the system was planned and installed by the academy’s students. The system is the first of many to come, so that “the humming of fuel generators will stop [in South Africa]”, the initiators of the Academy explain. Maxx-solar have decided to continue the utilization of Q CELLS modules, “because the triple Yield Security (Anti PID Technology, Hot-Spot Protect, Tra.QTM) proverbially eclipses any other modules.”
